If you walk into any modern drug store especially the big chains you will begin to see patterns to how they set the aisles and shelves. First, there are make-up and women related products and in front of the main check-out are cookies, candies, magazines and other impulse purchase items. As you go deeper into the store you run across hair products, greeting cards and finally medical needs way in the back.
This pattern is the by-product of years of study and many thousands of dollars. Merchants and marketing companies have made an art form out of determining what motivates people to purchase and how the products should be displayed to maximize potential buyer interest.
You do this every day, or at least you used to. There is a certain mental awareness maintained when you groom and dress yourself. You are making yourself presentable to the public and those you might wish to impress.
When we are young we learn to do this to appeal to and draw the interest of others. However, unlike companies that continue to analyze and improve marketing programs, people tend to lose interest in the effort and detail required if the return isn’t great enough.
Once you have a partner you may not spend as much time focused on grooming and how you dress as a means of impressing them.
