Calming the Disruptive Child
Ever see a child running wild or being loud and disruptiveĀ in a store, especially the grocery store? I have many times and it’s interesting to watch. There is a reason why and very few parents ever identify this as the reason for their child acting that way. The child is not associated with the adult way of life.
They are bored. Children need an almost constant source of stimulation to maintain focus and direction. Without that they wallow in a pool of confused boredom as they attempt to play with the products in search of some amusement.
Make your child or children an intergral part of the shopping experience. Most parents shop and ignore their children. The shopping process is exclusive to the adult parent unless purchasing specifically for a child. Allow the children to become a part of the experience.
They will be far more attentive and less apt to roam away and be disruptive. Asking their opinion on the bananas looking ripe enough helps to build self-worth, social value and keeps their focus and attention.
