Releasing the Fear of Failure
He sat there in the darkness and waited for what fate would throw his way. Although he was in complete control of the current situation the circumstances might change and everything around him might collapse in a moments notice. He felt dynamic and in charge, yet vulnerable.
The date was May 20, 1927 and Charles Lindburg sat in the seat of destiny during his famous flight from New York to Paris. Failure was not an option for Lindburg as certain death would most likely be the result from his lonely perch high above the dark vast ocean.
Have you felt like that? Does that career move you’ve been thinking about or new business you want to start seem to offer some of the same fears and doubts as what Lindburg was facing in those late night moments?
People often do feel like that when they are facing decisions that create uncertain paths for them. People fear failure because they have already accepted in their mind and thoughts that failure exists and is a possible result if they make a particular decision.
In my past post The Illusion of Failure the point was made that failure does not exist, only pure neutral result in actuality.
Lindburg took off on his historic flight fully aware that he would eventually get some form of result. He might not make it to Paris and may even crash into the sea, but the result would be a failure only in the eyes of those who accepted that reasoning. He pushed past that way of thinking and accepted the challenge with the thought that failure was not an option.
You can also take that all important yet dangerous step in your career or life. Accept the challenge for what it is and that failure is not an option, you must succeed or keep trying and doing whatever it takes to reach the goal.
Only then will you, like Lindburg, be able to achieve great things in your life.
