Fear is What You Fear

Mar 14 2008

So many people are afraid of something. It might be a fear of flying, heights, water or even other people. What most of these people fail to grasp is that what they fear is fear itself and not the actual subject they believe is the source of their anxiety.

Fear is a feeling. It is also a pattern of thought that defines that feeling. Subjects such flying or heights are the trigger, but the experience is nothing more than that thought or feeling.

If someone gives you bad news you experience the feelings associated with how you relate to that news even if the news is not true in actuality. It is real to you because your brain accepts it as true and reality at that moment.

Fear is the same. It’s not that you will actually fall from a height or end up in an air disaster, but the thought and the mental acceptance of the possibility that triggers the feelings within you.

Fear is most often a mirage, an illusion of life that we willingly accept as truth without proof.

The next time you are filled with feelings of fear and dread reexamine the meanings you have mentally accepted and you will find that your fear is a phantom that pokes its head out whenever you least expect.

You allow fear to hold you back for no good reason and it is the thought and feeling of fear that motivates you not the subject you are focused on.
