A Gift That Keeps On Giving
As I was leaving a large chain store today I happened to see a young man walk up to a lady as she unloaded her shopping cart into the trunk of her car. Inside her car was a young child, sound asleep.
This teenage fellow took her cart and returned it for her so that she would not have to leave the child to do so herself.
As I passed by him I immediately commended him for his kind actions and his response was that even though he regularly helps others few ever thank him.
One of the best ways to anchor quality thoughts and actions in young people and children is through praise. Your character is strengthened by taking the time to share a few simple words of thanks and encouragement that acknowledge their efforts.
Train yourself to take notice of the good deeds of others and let them know how much you appreciate the fact that they live with a degree of human excellence. It will go a long way toward making your day and theirs.

Leading the Parade of Life
When I was a young child one of the things I enjoyed the most was watching a parade down Main Street of my hometown. Most impressive of all was the person selected to lead the parade.
This was a much honored spot in the parade and signified the importance of that person to the community.
Some things that are so critically needed right now is a revisiting of the way we think about the quality of our children’s thoughts and actions, the social structure of our communities and the way we view our use of natural resources.
There needs to be a parade for human excellence in every town and city.
The most honored position is that of the leader. The person or group that will step up and take the lead to direct the parade across the community and guide others to a quality of living that has been diminishing over the years.
Are you up to leading the parade of life in your community?

Whoopi and the Word
Today I saw Whoopi Goldberg make an interesting reference to a word so dangerous to young people, in fact all people, that it can change the course of an entire life.
That word is Stupid.
Young children believe in the words of adults. They are supposed to. This how they learn and get their words of guidance.
When an adult tells any young child or teen that they are stupid there is a chance that the young person hasn’t developed the reasoning to grasp the use of that word enough to realize that is not a TRUE reflection of who and what they are.
They truly believe they are stupid and this may inhibit their motivation and ambition for personal effort and growth. Plus each child will have their own view of what the word stupid means, a childlike view that may be much more than what the adult realized or meant.
In essence, be very careful of the words you choose to use and how you say them to people especially young people.
