Silence is Golden
During a recent business engagement I had the chance to scan the room and observe those present for their patterns. One man in particular stood out above the rest.
He was sharp witted, quick with the response and generally very good at talking to others.
Too good in fact, he rarely seemed able to draw an extra breath because he was so focused on constantly being the person doing the talking and controlling the conversation.
How sad I thought that such a gifted person would squander his abilities behind a wall of sound and gestures.
In business and in life one finds that the person who can control their tongue is most often the same person that can control their brain to a higher degree.
Effective communication is not an onslaught of words, but rather a properly timed dance of sentences surrounded by the golden moments of silence that allow others to express their views and thoughts.
For without those views and thoughts you have no feedback or vision into the mind of others.
We were given TWO eyes and ears and only ONE tongue for a reason.
Use the eyes and ears twice as much as the tongue and you will also find that silence is golden.
