Why There is NO GAS

Sep 30 2008

There are times in life when one is simply struck speechless. When you watch the actions or listen to others with openmouthed amazement in their inability to grasp the nature of the situation.

The gas crunch in the southeast is a perfect example.

Want to know WHY there is no gas? Read on…

People panic.

Plain and simple truth is that people don’t seem to know how to respond to news messages of doom and gloom. When a hurricane is headed to the Gulf coast people in Ohio and Virginia start buying all the bread and milk off the shelves. Why? Panic…

There is absolutely no need for them to run down and buy right now, but they want their product BEFORE anyone else can take it away from them. They want to be sure they have bread and milk.

How many loaves of bread and gallons of milk are in your local supermarkets? Plenty for normal consumption, but certainly not enough if everyone in town tries to purchase all at one time. The shelves would be bare in minutes with delivery days away.

Stores and gas stations run on a predictable schedule of customer numbers and delivery days. Stations generally don’t run out of gas UNLESS there is a panic run on them by everyone all at once.

When people heard of Hurricane Ike and the potential issues with refineries shutting down they ALL ran out to fill up ALL of their vehicles. This created an imbalance in the gas availability and delivery schedule process.

Now there are hundreds of travelers, local residents and yes, even the panicked people that have now driven all of their panic fuel out of their cars waiting in line for the next tanker truck. The trucks are on a normal schedule, but the demand is NOT normal.

How long do you think another tanker of gas will last when there are 200 vehicles already waiting in line to drain the tanks dry?

Yet when I talked to one man who filled his FOUR vehicles up all on one day just before Hurricane Ike he simply couldn’t grasp the concept of what was causing this shortage.

It certainly wasn’t HIS fault…

By the way did I mention that he and his family members had all four vehicles back in the gas line all at one time AGAIN.

All of the people in Atlanta cannot buy gas in the same four hour period. The gas stations and distribution points were not designed to handle that type of run on the stations. The result is and always will be a shortage, excuse me, NO GAS until the ripple effect of empty cars settles down.

Bailout Fails What Now

Sep 29 2008

Well, what a turn of events. Blockbuster news that the bailout bill had failed to pass sent the stock market into a frenzy. My friends with strong ties to stocks and finance all grabbed for the Maalox and Mylanta.

What now?

If comprehension and congruent thinking can’t be established in this time of need when is it possible?

Like the big wave surfer that knowingly will bailout to avoid a wipeout the political and financial sectors need to hold hands and make the safe and very necessary decisions to get this country back on a place of fiscal and economic balance.
