And make no mistake it is a game. People naturally evolve very specific social patterns within the office environment and those patterns affect your ability and chances of moving up the corporate ladder.
The main tip is to identify the specific skills and qualities the company rewards.
Absolute integrity is a must!
- Don’t play up to or mimic the boss.
- Do more than is asked or expected of you.
- Give your boss a way to change and save face.
- Identify the educational level required for advancement.
- Stay in a job position only as long as BOTH parties benefit.
Be A Position Frog - If your boss vacates a position move to that position. Then move to another company at a higher position and then back to your old company with a position higher than your original boss.
This takes some time, but can be effective in creating movement in a stagnant position below a specific boss.
