Communication Out to Millions
In the fast paced living process we all experience nothing can be more frustrating than when communications go down and you can’t get the results you desire. The issue is more wide spread than first thought.
Verbal communication and the ability to convey our wishes to children are two of the most important and often time consuming patterns of daily living. However, countless parents seem to be unable to communicate with their children.
I hear parents claim it’s like talking to a wall or as if their children are living on another planet.
Well, in a way, they are!
Adults have an instruction channel they use to convey multiple directives to other adults. Children have an imagination channel in that same place and often think in small packets or even one point of focus at a time.
The adult instruction channel is not compatible with the child’s imagination and fantasy channel.
When adults come in a door they think about opening, going through and then closing the door. Children think about going through only and opening becomes a functional reasoning of how to go through. Closing the door has little to do with the process of opening so children often fail to close the door behind them.
Learning to think and talk with your child is an art of patience and understanding. Parents simply cannot expect the child to suddenly grow up to their adult way of communicating.
