Watching Michael Phelps
I still remember the excitement in my mother’s kitchen as we watched Mark Spitz swim for seven gold medals with seven world records in 1972. The images of those Olympics are forever etched in my memories.
I still consider it one of, if not the single greatest individual athletic performance of all time in any sport.
What an honor it has been to live to see both Mark Spitz and Michael Phelps in their prime. One must remember that Michael Phelps is breaking world records that would have also won by a wide margin back in 1972.
The finely tuned quality of performance patterns held by Michael Phelps are simply amazing and teach a lot about getting the most out of human potential if one is looking for lessons in life.
Before it is all over stop what you are doing and watch this young man swim into history as the best.
You’ll remember it for the rest of your life.

Why Michael Phelps Excels
As I joined the millons of people around the world watching the 2008 Olympics last evening it wasn’t the world records and exciting finishes that show why Michael Phelps and the other athletes are so successful.
It was the quality of their living patterns.
After the astonishing men’s 4 X 100 Freestyle Relay I watched Michael Phelps immediately compose himself enough to comfort the French team that must have been terribly disappointed and emotionally hurt at that moment.
Each competitor on that pool apron is successful at what they do because they have adopted such high quality standards for their training, competition and after race patterns. Their personal drive to excel won’t let them quit even when faced with almost certain defeat.
How much further could you go, where would you be right now if you had that self-demanding quality in your personal and business life?
You may not compete in the Olympics, but there is no reason you can’t put on a gold medal performance in the living experience. If you do, wear it proudly.

Watching Profits Float Away
In seminars I am often asked by business owners about the thought patterns of potential customers. My answer is usually treat people in a consistent manner and limit the decisions to be made.
One case that comes to mind is a local river tube rental business. There are several such tube rental businesses in the area and each seems to compete with prices. This particular shop rented float tubes by size for $15, $20 and $25.
My suggestion was simple. Make all tube rentals $20. The people who pay $15 would not really notice paying $20 and the customers lost to another business on $25 tubes would stay because that extra $5 would be staying in their pocket.
The results were immediate and dramatic. The $20 one price for all drew people away from the multiple price shops and there was never any hesitation or price bartering from customers.
They simply pick out the tube they want and pay one fixed price.
People want to get on with having a good time and would generally rather not have to make decisions on such matters. Simple designs appeal to customers.

Mind Over Money
With the financial burdens of recent times there are more and more people asking me questions that pertain to money and income. There is one piece of wisdom that stands the test of time.
If you feel that you can afford to be negligent you are not far from being poor.
Riches and wealth don’t generally just happen. They are the result of detailed planning and the living skills to make those results a reality in actuality. Success requires focus and constant and consistent effort.
Look around you. The people in dire financial condition are usually the same people who never know about or choose to ignore the signs of change and opportunity. They procrastinate or ignore their way into a lifestyle of pressure and stress.
Stay diligent of your financial affairs and ever on the outlook for new opportunities. Success is infectious and begins with a dynamic lifestyle and outlook on life.

What a Character
“It is not what he has, nor even what he does, which directly expresses the worth of a man, but what he is.” — Amiel
How true this is and even more today in our fast paced patterns of society living.
Possession and actions do not define the person. Rather the quality of who you are and what you stand for determine the real you. Human excellence begins within the person and spreads out to others.
One cannot move people with the hands like objects, but instead must use the heart and spirit to influence others.
You are the sum of your standards, morals and values.
Quality of character generates powerful influence in the individual.
