Measuring Applied Potential

Jul 26 2010

Each of us has a specific potential in all aspects of physical and mental self. You know only so much and can do only so much.

However, you have knowledge and physical capability that goes untapped. In fact, you probably don’t realize the depth and immense power stored within you as a human being.

Let’s give you a simple example. Suppose you are an average person capable of lifting around 100 lbs maximum within your comfort range on any given day. You could lift more, but it’s a struggle and you might pull something.

In a life or death situation the human body responds through the survival mechanism. The body is pumped full of natural stimulants and injury warning systems are disconnected. Suddenly the average person can momentarily lift 1500 lbs or more in an enormous burst of energy.

That stored power can be tapped. Not fully, but in small amounts. Physical strength requiring muscle group action may be tapped up to about 15% and eye - hand coordination skills and endurance up to around 30% before natural safety governors kick in to avoid injury.

This would be up to 15% of total available potential or in the case of the 1500 lb life saving effort another 225 lbs. The average 100 lb lifter can explode to 325 lbs if required.

If one planned on developing strength through applied potential then muscle training and fitness would be required to avoid the chance of strain or injury. Coordination enhancement through applied potential generally requires limited physical development time.

The answer is getting more out of self and into the process. More knowledge in the form of ideas, concepts, answers and solutions as well as physical energy, effort and endurance.

This is especially valuable to athletes such as golfers, tennis or soccer players, triathletes and any sport requiring coordination and endurance qualities.

The final frontier of man’s exploration will most likely be man, himself.

Better Patterns for Better Golf

Jul 14 2010

There are several levels to any competitive sport. First, are those that play for fun, then the people that take their effort seriously and finally come the professionals that play for a living.

People seeking fun don’t need or desire rigidity in the structure of the game beyond the standard rules of play.

However, those that take any sport seriously enough to invest deeply into their time and money for equipment, training and active play are constantly and consistently seeking new methods of improvement.

When the results truly matter the process of play is paramount to the success and satisfaction of the individual.

Yes, I work with amateur and professional team sports also and the results are just as important in the long run, but it is in individual sports such as golf and tennis that peak performance and maximum potential become critical.

Team sports allow one to have an off day every now and then, but individual sportspeople don’t have that luxury. Have a bad day and you go home with a big frown on your face and poor results to show for the effort.

At the professional level that can put a large dent in your end-of-year bottom line and the quality of lifestyle for your family and support group.

I have focused on golf for some time because of the heavy demand golf places on focus, concentration and the need for consistent unified effect. Unlike tennis which has a direct opponent, golf pits the individual against self and course.

The process of golfing is defined by specific patterns of thought and acceptance. If these patterns are not strengthened and refined it becomes a matter of spraying the ball all over. The ball seems to have a mind of its own and the process becomes frustrating leading to a loss of self-control and mental acuity.

Once these patterns are defined for the golfer and tweaked with practice the results come naturally and quickly. Generally it takes 6 sessions or less to trigger the skills within most individuals.

With scratch to 10 handicappers our average is 2.89 strokes under handicap and with high handicappers the average improvement is 9.73 strokes.

Almost any serious golfer with a 10 handicap or less would love to avoid leaving almost 3 strokes on the course per round. It is possible, all it takes is the decision to get better and a little willingness to learn and improve.

Golf patterns layer upon themselves. The single stroke becomes the hole and the holes become the entire round. Therefore, the mechanics of each stroke, mental acuity and ability to access and release stored potential are vital to overall result.

The best equipment in the world won’t help much if your mental game is weak or you are simply unable to convert potential into action and result.

Golf, like triathlon or track and field reacts well to psycheological training.

That, along with the fact that I love the game of golf and the beauty of golf courses makes it one of my favorite sports of choice for clients. I even suggest to other clients, especially entertainers, that they consider taking up the game of golf.

Many already have.

Define and refine the patterns of the game and get better results starting today.

The Golden Heart

Jul 08 2010

It’s right there, only inches away, and yet you remain powerless to take hold of the matter and claim your riches. Or, is that not how you would react if your heart were actually made of solid gold.

Imagine it. The frustration of someone stuck in seemingly endless poverty with all that monetary value just out of grasp. To claim the riches would be to give up one’s life in exchange. An ultimate paradox to perplex those inclined to ponder a way or means to an end.

And yet, you walk around every day with a golden treasure hidden away within. Never thought of and in many instances never even considered.

You have great stored potential.

Knowledge, talents, skills, endurance, focus, the list goes on and on. If an emergency arises, you shift gears. Nature designed you that way. The brain speeds up and the body, adrenalized, springs into action.

That is then, this is now.

Most people go through their daily routine on autopilot. Even the people that seem very active only tap into a small portion of their total potential reserves and capabilities. Part of that is comfort and another part is lack of awareness and therefore, focus.

It’s not that we should all be bungee jumping each day, but rather that sharper focus and application of greater levels of skill, talent and energy potential definitely provide improved results.

So before you consider anything else, any program, first look within yourself and identify where the gold can be found. You’ll know it. Every person finds the answer on their own. It’s that special skill or talent, natural ability or knowledge you can share. It’s the gold that will lead you to the rainbow of satisfaction and fulfillment.

You don’t need a coach, mentor, guru or whatever to do this.

Find the golden heart hidden dormant within. Look at it from all angles and consider how and why you might best derive the value by sharing it with others. How can your golden heart help others progress and grow? Therein is your calling and success.

Once you find it, once you are absolutely certain to have identified your golden potential and have examined it from every angle, understanding it well…then you might consider asking for advice and direction.

Because no person, program, book, seminar or whatever can be truly effective unless you are well grounded in self understanding. You must know your talents, skills and strengths.

I’m reminded of a young man that struggled for years working tough jobs. He had resigned to the thought of living that way. That would be the pattern of his living existence, forever. Until he discovered a hidden latent talent and skill with airbrush painting quite by accident.

Life, the living experience was never the same.

He loved what he was doing, the requests and money poured in and his living experience and lifestyle blossomed into the full bloom of human satisfaction and fulfillment.

All because he stumbled upon his golden heart and converted it into value for others.

Find your golden heart. That’s the starting point.
